The Story

Episode 7 marks the midpoint of the “Road to LA” narrative arc. This chapter takes us from Gekko’s beginnings to the other side of the world — Norway — where an elite female squad of Norwegian special forces confronts a massive, menacing creature in a remote facility. The mission ends in tragedy: the creature is neutralized, but DEADLØK CINEMATIC loses her entire squad, her arm, and falls unconscious. She wakes up in VAL HQ, where KJ outfits her with a new prosthetic. Before she can process her losses, she spots one of Gekko’s creatures and demands answers. She’s not letting another breach happen — and LA is next, both in the story and at VCT Champions.

The Location

The story takes place in Svalbard, inspired by the real seed vault. In our world, it’s a secret Kingdom facility where experiments opened gates to the “interverse” and unleashed dangerous creatures. The cinematic uses small sets and a tight cast to create a strong feeling of isolation. Surrounded by endless snow, DEADLØK gets trapped in the vault with a monster nearby — making every scene tense and suspenseful while keeping production lean.

The Bear

The first animal in Valorant—a fierce bear— a lot of back and forth on this guy. In the end, he did his job of ripping Deadlok’s arm.

The group prepares to enter. A growl/bellow echoes from somewhere deep inside that could be walls cracking from the pressure change of the door opening...or something else.

Rough Cut/Animatic

In this phase, we focused on framing the story’s isolation and suspense. The boards and animatic mapped out the cold, endless landscape of Svalbard and the tight, claustrophobic spaces inside the vault. We designed shots that make the viewer feel trapped with DEADLØK — always just steps away from danger. With a smaller cast and fewer sets, every scene was carefully planned to maximize tension and pacing while keeping the visual storytelling sharp and efficient

Color Script

The color script set the mood from start to finish — cold blues for the icy landscapes, deep shadows for the vault, and warm tones for key emotional moments. It helped guide the story’s tension visually.

Layout

In layout, we locked camera moves and staging to heighten the feeling of isolation. Every shot was designed to keep the tension tight and the environment vast but oppressive.

Render Preview

The render previews helped us test lighting and mood early on — cold, harsh tones outside, and dark, confined spaces inside — all to support the suspense-driven narrative.

Valorant’s Home Screen Feature

It was really special to know that the love we poured into every scene would show up on the home screen of the game I play myself. There’s something awesome about seeing the world we built right there when you log in — it makes the work feel even more personal, like I’m sharing that experience with every other player out there.
